"It's so stupid not to go through life with everything you want; with nothing but extreme joy, peace, loveliness every moment; when that is your inherent natural state.  It takes no effort to be what you are.  It does take extreme effort to be what you are not: a body with trouble, sicknesses, and needing this and needing that.  It takes effort to be what you're not. But to be what you are takes as much effort as you men would need to be male and as you women would need to be female. It takes no effort to be what you are. And yet, you persist in using effort to be what you are not. It's really stupid!

You're using effort in trying to make yourself effortless, that's impossible.  It's a contradiction. You've got to stop using effort.  You've got to let go and let be. That's what's meant by 'Let go let God.' You are it, you're the god. Let go and let your Self be. However, it seems to take much effort because you are using tremendous effort to hold onto and maintain your non-self, your ego, and there is where your effort is. It takes no effort to be what you are, the Self."

"As one strives to know the true "I," attachment to objects and degrading thoughts gradually drop away. The more one does not forget the Self, the more the elevating qualities can take root. Realization will come eventually."

"An experienced forest guide was hired by some people who wanted to explore the woods. He knew it was first necessary to destroy their false confidence in themselves.  Pointing to a hilltop beyond the woods, he directed 'Fix your attention on that hill an climb it in a minimum of time.'

"When the puffing hikers reached the hilltop, they found the guide waiting for them. 'Do you know why you are so late?' he asked. You were distracted by the sights along the way. Had you kept your attention on this hilltop you would not have lost your way.'"

"Do not be distracted by superficial attractions, but keep your attention on the hilltop you want to reach."

"The Self is like a powerful magnet hidden within us. It draws us gradually to Itself, though we imagine we are going to It of our own accord. When we are near enough, It puts an end to our other activities, makes us still, and then swallows up our own personal current, thus killing our personality. It overwhelms the intellect and floods the whole being. We think we are meditating upon It and developing towards It, whereas the truth is, that we are like iron-filings and It is the Atman (Self)-magnet that is pulling us towards Itself. Thus the process of finding Self is a form of divine magnetism."

"Meditation on the Self is our natural state. It is only because we find it hard that we imagine it to be an arbitrary and extraordinary state. We are all unnatural. The mind resting in the Self is its natural condition, but instead of that, our minds are resting in outward objects."

"You don't need to think of yourself as a spiritual seeker.
It is a back-bending burden to go around with a self-picture
of being a spiritual or religious person. A man is genuinely
spiritual when he has no conditioned ideas of what it means to
be spiritual. To be real is to be spiritual. A cat is normal
because no one has fixed him with the neurotic notion that he
should be a tiger. A man loses neurosis when he is what he is."
